This Button Wednesday is about "Bluffs". Bluffs is made by artist Tara Donovan. Tara is an artist from New York and her works feature found objects like buttons, shattered glass, fishing line, drinking straws, etc. She takes very simple objects and transforms them into something much more beautiful and complex. Bluffs is a sculpture piece completely made of simple buttons. Since the buttons are white, cream, and clear, it gives a very icy feel, like you have just stumbled upon a winter castle. Or it might be some spiraling coral, or crystals that have grown from the floor of a cave, or a mountain range carved into peaks. When light shines through it, it turns a dusky pink/mauve color. The varying densities within the piece make for an infinite scale of saturation of this color, which changes subtly with point of view. Here a lot of pictures to show you this wonderful art piece.

OK, this was not my best week.... I was ill, had the flu, pretty heavy, and felt awful. Pretty sad about it, because I had great plans; sewing two skirts and new bags for the Xmas market. Nothing of all this. Hope next week will be better :)
But in between my bed and the toilet, I made some flowers for the Xmas market, I thought it would be a nice decoration of my stand, winter white flowers. And maybe I sell them too. Made them from old trevira fabric (a heritage from my mother), some wire and real tree branches. Looked from some beautiful worn ones in our wood stove burning wood stack. The flowers themselves can be changed in form, because of the wire sewn into them.
I only think that they will not be very suitable for Etsy, because the branches cannot be very long (German Post: 60x15x15 box is maximum) and although they weigh not much, it's still 6 Euro to send them abroad. I could cut the branches at about 45 cm, and I could see how much flowers I could get into the German Post norm, but where do I get cartons from that size ????
This week I finished two Samurai drapes in small sizes and in wool. I fiddled so long with the Japanese pattern to make it really nice fitting for a European size S/M. The black and white checkered one is from a pretty thick tweed wool I bought some years ago in Edinburgh (when we lived there); it has turned out much nicer than I thought, because I was first afraid it would be too stiff. But it drapes gorgeously, like a thick winter scarf. The other one is from a lovely purple striped wool fabric, much thinner and suppler than the tweed one. So, this one is a more flexible drape.
My lovely friend Anne is modelling them here, and she looks great in them ! They are for sale in my P8Accessories etsy shop ! Will also start to make some more in sizes L and XL.
This week's theme for the flickr favourites is "show what touches your senses, gives you goosebumps, makes you all gooey inside...". Difficult, because there is so much that hits me emotionally, but my heart really jumps when I see how people make real & big art from materials and techniques that are familiar to me, like paper, wool, knitting etc. My mind always goes like "wow", I wanna do that too, make something big and unexpecting.... Well, who knows, maybe one day ....

Last year I had a biking tourist in my shop who came from the south of Germany and she bought a set of earrings from me. If that's not happiness enough, she sent me a little parcel this year with some very unusual buttons ! She wrote that she found these buttons and had to think of me, and because she had my card, she decided to send them to me. Is that not super cool !!!
So, what makes these buttons so special ? In the first place they are big, you can see that on the pics with my fingers. In the second place they are flowers, so they are goofies (and I always like goofies). In the third place they are a construction set of three parts; two disks with petals fitting into each other, and a bud with shank that fits into the hole of the petal disks. Very ingenious ! 
I would love to paint these buttons; they are made of white plastic. Does anybody know what kind of paint I need for this ?

This Monday's moodboard is colourless, because I feel colourless at the moment. The whole weekend I tried to take good photographs of my new rings, but I was not very succesful. And the colours were teasing me; every time they came out differently. So, today I hate colours ! Maybe I will only make black and white rings in the future....
