My Flickr Favourites: My fashion

Today in the Flickr Favourites we play by theme: a fashionable mosaic. I would like to show you what clothes I would love to wear with the according accessories. I choose for this gorgeous dress from Alexander McQueen, which can also be flattering for a more full woman. Then a beautiful green kimono jacket on top of it with green fingerless gloves and a bag with buttons ! Love it !!

Etsy : Earrings

This week's earrings are black lava cubes from Silja from 5erg on Etsy. Silja is from Estonia and makes, next to earrings, the most wonderful mermaids and other creatures.

I am wearing my lava pretty often !

Traditional Costumes : Japanese Drapes

This week I finished two Samurai drapes in small sizes and in wool. I fiddled so long with the Japanese pattern to make it really nice fitting for a European size S/M. The black and white checkered one is from a pretty thick tweed wool I bought some years ago in Edinburgh (when we lived there); it has turned out much nicer than I thought, because I was first afraid it would be too stiff. But it drapes gorgeously, like a thick winter scarf. The other one is from a lovely purple striped wool fabric, much thinner and suppler than the tweed one. So, this one is a more flexible drape.

My lovely friend Anne is modelling them here, and she looks great in them ! They are for sale in my P8Accessories etsy shop ! Will also start to make some more in sizes L and XL.

Etsy : Earrings

This week's earrings are from EST member panyizsuzsi from Hungary, who makes lovely glass creations. I bought them on Etsy in February 2008. They look great with a black outfit and I wear them also with greens (one of my favourite colours).

Tidbits : Monday Moodboard

This Monday's moodboard is colourless, because I feel colourless at the moment. The whole weekend I tried to take good photographs of my new rings, but I was not very succesful. And the colours were teasing me; every time they came out differently. So, today I hate colours ! Maybe I will only make black and white rings in the future....

Fabrics : Mourning Kraplap

I got a request from a customer on Etsy to make her a kraplap like the one above, but then from fabric and fitting to black clothes. She said: "create your ideal mourning kraplap for me !" after she had read my blogpost about the kraplap. After some searching through my traditional costume books, I got lots of inspiration and made a pattern based on the kraplap from the traditional costume in Staphorst in The Netherlands.

I still had some black and white fabric from Staphorst which is actually used at mourning and decided to sew the kraplap double so that it was wearable on two sides. For the other side I chose a black traditional German fabric with stripes and pink roses, which could be seen as "light mourning".

And this is the result. I like it ! Now I hope the customer likes it too.....

Challenge : Minimalisme

The European Street Team Challenge for last week was minimalisme. I tried several things, but they all looked kind of cheap and childish. Then I got a bag full of old buttons from a friend of mine who found that at a fleah market with the most gorgeous large buttons from the fifties. After brooding for a week, I suddenly saw the light, and used these funky, funny and mod buttons with large holes to make a minimalistic bracelet. I like it ! What do you think ?

Etsy : Then and Now ......

vadjutka from the European Street Team on Etsy had the great idea to gather "then and now" items from the members; you can see them on her blog: http://craftsthenandnow.blogspot.com/

I had to look into my old stuff and finally found this 1985 brooch. This brooch is one of the first I made (I think it was in 1985) and I am still having it ! It's made from this metal instrument you get with IKEA furniture to build it. Back then my husband and I bought our first IKEA chair, and after it was build, the instrument became a brooch. There are some wooden beads on it and some plastic female screws too; probably also leftovers from some IKEA thing ......

And this is what I make at the moment; various buttons are sewn together to form a brooch or pin. It's part of my P8 Button Art line.
