Tidbits : Monday Moodboard

This Monday's moodboard is called "Amsterdam".
I am really in the mood for Amsterdam next Sunday; seeing lots of my european street team friends on etsy. We will drive to Holland on Friday. It's a pity I could not do a thing last week to make my boot nicer for the craft fair because of the arthritis in my right hand. But, nice boot or nor, I will be there !

Tidbits : Peggy at the Craft Market

Last sunday it was beautiful weather and we decided to attand the largest craft market in northern Germany. The market was in the village of Süderschmedeby and there were 150 participants from the whole of Germany and Denmark. It was really huge ! We (Pieter and I, at the left in the picture above) met there with Vanessa (you can see here at the extreme right in the picture above) and Matthias (with his parents, behind Vanessa in the picture)) from the European Street Team on Etsy, and that was so nice ! I always like to see the faces behind our team members. I got some lovely green earrings from Vanessa, and Matthias made some beautiful pictures of Peggy.

We decided that it would be great if we all could attend this market next year with a big Etsy group. You can see lots of gorgeous pictures Matthias made on the market on his photo blog.

Button Wednesday : German Metals

It is Wednesday again, so it's BUTTON DAY on my blog. It would be great if you could do the same; make your Wednesday a button day too. Have you seen a lovely, beautiful, stunning, crazy button or button-related thingy, or did you make something with a button / buttons, or did you even make buttons yourself, blog about it on your blog on Wednesday, and give the link here via Mister Linky at the end of this post.

I am known in the neighbourhood as "die Knopffrau" (i.e. "The Button Lady"); no idea if this is bad or good.... But on some days, ladies that are unknown to me, ring my bell and bring me their buttons. Often with a story that they have gathered them for many years, and now it's lying there and they do nothing with it. Ending mostly with: I am so happy if you could do something useful with them !
Today the bell ringed again; and yes, there was another sweet lady with 2 plastic bags of buttons. I am always thrilled if I get buttons; so, I immediately went through them and found some lovely German metal buttons. The nice thing of living in Germany, are the lovely metal buttons women here always used on their folk dresses. And I found some masterpieces ! A bit damaged here and there, and a bit dirty; but the fun is great !! I found a deer, a woman in Bavarian headdress, edelweiss, and much more; have a look at these beauties:

Tidbits : Gardening

We had such lovely warm and sunny weather yesterday, that I did a lot of gardening. Removed a lot of weed, planted my vegetables, started building the rock garden, refreshed the herbs, planted some wine grapes (yeah ! in northern Germany), and harvested the first radish and salad from my little glass box !!!! The rest of the day I sat in my chair in the sun and enjoyed it all.

At the rear end in the 4th picture above you can see my test table for the fair in A'dam :)

Hats : Secret Spring Swap

The European Street Team organized a secret spring swap last month and now my spring swap partner davir has received her parcel, I thought I could show you part of it. I don't show here the bag and the bracelet I sent, being models I made and showed here before, but give you a glance of my new hat / cap model. I think it's sportive, but in the same time romantic and feminine; the elastic in the neck of the back makes that it fits lots of head sizes. I made it in green because that is davir's favourite colour, and I liked the strawberry fabric so much !

I like the model very much; what do you think ?

Button Wednesday : Artist Lisa Kokin

It is Wednesday again, so it's BUTTON DAY again on my blog. It would be great if you could do the same; make a your Wednesday a button day too. Have you seen a lovely, beautiful, stunning, crazy button or button-related thingy, or did you make something with a button / buttons, or did you even make buttons yourself, blog about it on your blog on Wednesday, and give the link here via Mister Linky at the end of this post.

Passage
Buttons and mixed media, imitation sinew, waxed linen, chicken wire; 41 X 29-1/2, 2004.

This Wednesday Button Day is dedicated to the button art from artist Lisa Konin. Her parents were upholsterers and her earliest memories are of playing in their shop with piles of vinyl and foam rubber. She has sewn since she was a child and the stitch plays a major role in her work, so it was natural to join the buttons together to form a reconstructed family portrait. What began as a memorial to her father soon expanded to lots of family portraits, past and present, humans and animals.

She says: "My work has always had an obsessive quality and this body of work is no exception. Every button is stitched to its neighbor to form a low-tech pixilated composition. Up close each piece is an abstract melange of colors and shapes; the further back one stands the more decipherable the image becomes. This interplay between abstraction and representation intrigues me. It is as though I am painting with buttons, building my palette as I go along, adding and subtracting until the interplay of colors and forms coalesces into a coherent image."

Challenge : Recycling

The challenge of the European Street Team for this week is from LabSpace and is called "Recycling".

For the button creations in my P8 Button Art shop on Etsy I use a lot of linen yarn; I buy this yarn on plastic star-formed spools. Those spools are so nice, that I could not throw them away. And now I finally got some ideas to use them. I make all kinds of brooches from them. The funny thing of these spools is that you can weave in the holes and that you can wrap around them ! This is the one I use for the challenge (it's for sale in my P8 Accessories shop on Etsy):

And here are some of the other brooches too:

Buttons : spring swap wreath

The European Street Team organized a secret spring swap last month and I received my present last week; it's a gorgeous button wreath made by the talented florist Vaida from Lithuania. Have a look at her lovely creations in her Etsy shop kaleda. She has a great blog too. Vaida made me something really special, and she also wrote that if I wanted the buttons after a while I could easily take them off because they are not glued ! So thoughtful, don't you think ?

I decided to hang the wreath at the left door of my atelier / workspace which is mostly closed; the right door is mostly open in summer; so all tourists coming to visit see the wreath immediately !

It was difficult to take pics because of the refection of the glass door, but I hope you can see how lovely the wreath is. And finally a very strange picture from this morning when the sun came through; I like it somehow ....

Button Wednesday : Portraits

I am going to make each Wednesday a BUTTON DAY on my blog. I will write about a button or a button-related item / event and will show some great pics. It would be great if you could do the same. Have you seen a lovely, beautiful, stunning, crazy button or button-related thingy, or did you make something with a button / buttons, or did you even make buttons yourself, blog about it on your blog on Wednesday, and give the link here via Mister Linky at the end of this post.

This Wednesday Button Day is dedicated to the button portraits from Estonian artists Maria Ader and Johanna Ulfsak. All these portraits of famous fashion designers were made from buttons; Vivian Westwood, Karl Lagerfeld and Manolo Blahnik. I think they are fantastic !!!!

Challenge : Winding

The challenge of the European Street Team for this week is from NancyvdBoom and is called "Winding".

After long and deep thoughts, I decided to go for a "quadruple" winding.... In the first place I bought these lovely beige raffia hats from a shop that went out of business (plus some great buttons of course), and these hats are crocheted as one big spiral. Then, secondly, I made two knitted cords by means of winding. Yeah, you are reading this right, not in the old fashioned way with needle and spool, but with a real knitting machine ! The power of this machine was delivered by my winding hand (that started to hurt after 4 meters of cord).

Steps 3 and 4 are winding both cords around each other and sewing them on the hat, together with some lovely vintage green buttons. Thus, 4 times winding !
It's for sale in my P8 Accessories shop on Etsy.

Tidbits : Monday Moodboard

This Monday's moodboard is all about my tummy.
Somehow, this morning I am only thinking of bellies and tummies..... I had surgery in my tummy last year, and this week I feel it aches again. So, I am afraid it's not over yet. I have to wait 3 weeks for my next check-up appointment :(
