Buttons : Button Plates

I suddenly came across these lovely button plates and found out that they were from Dutch designer Kiki van Eijk.

Kiki is designing carpets, furniture, glasses, tiles, lamps, vases, towels etc. She uses old and new techniques and applies them often in a very unexpected way, which makes her designs always playful. These button plates are inspired by a box of buttons Kiki found belonging to her grandma; she found all the subtle variations in the different white tones and finishings very appealing. She has also designed button table clothes and button towels. I am dreaming of a Xmas dinner with such cloth and plates on the table.....

Buttons : Button Wall

Surfing on the internet I found this beautiful public art wall totally made out of buttons. It's made by Jane Watt from Edinburgh for the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital.

The "Button Wall" is made of 58,500 pearlescent buttons in pink, blue, orange, and three shades of grey that cover a 4m long curved wall in the Hospital. Each button was individually stuck on by hand then grouted and polished up to make the buttons shine. The random patterns of coloured circles echo images of cell patterns found in the body. The texture can seem like the scales or skin of an animal. The pearlescent sparkling wall is inspired by the signature granite buildings of Aberdeen. Jane says: "I enjoy taking a familiar everyday object and giving it a very different use".

Tidbits : Granny Squares

baahar from the European Street Team (EST) on Etsy had a great idea ! All EST members could make a collaborative granny square blanket, where all participating members would send a square or two for her to put together as a blanket, to be sold for some charity organization.
I immediately told here I am in, because I liked the idea of this patchwork blanket! I studied her description of the granny squares pretty intensive, because it's already many years ago that I last had a crochet hook in my hands. And after many attempts, I finally managed to make 3 squares, which, if I may say so, is a major achievement for a non-crocheter as I am.
Here they are:

They will be posted first thing monday morning !
