Surfing on the internet I found this beautiful public art wall totally made out of buttons. It's made by Jane Watt from Edinburgh for the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital.
The "Button Wall" is made of 58,500 pearlescent buttons in pink, blue, orange, and three shades of grey that cover a 4m long curved wall in the Hospital. Each button was individually stuck on by hand then grouted and polished up to make the buttons shine. The random patterns of coloured circles echo images of cell patterns found in the body. The texture can seem like the scales or skin of an animal. The pearlescent sparkling wall is inspired by the signature granite buildings of Aberdeen. Jane says: "I enjoy taking a familiar everyday object and giving it a very different use".

Wonderful--I can't believe she had the patience to do that whole wall--but the total effect is worth all that work!
