Button Wednesday : Georg Herold

It is Wednesday again, so it's BUTTON DAY on my blog !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This week I found out about the work of German artist Georg Herold (born in 1947 in Jena). He creates very personal and meditative work, often ironic and critical, and uses mostly unusual materials like roof beams, bricks, buttons etc. The above button painting is a watercolor with buttons, thread, and shellac on primed canvas.

The next three paintings are oil paintings with buttons and thread on canvas.

And this last one is a collage of buttons and string on linen:

Although I like these paintings, I would love to know: Why buttons ?? Does Georg Herold want to send a message ? Like in much of his work ?
The pictures are from artvalue.com and Frieze Art Fair; and if you want to see more of his work, here's a video from a Georg Herold Retrospektive in Kärnten.

Have you seen a lovely, beautiful, stunning, crazy button or button-related thingy, or did you make something with a button / buttons, or did you even make buttons yourself, blog about it on your blog on Wednesday, and give the link here in the comments so that everybody can enjoy it !!

Tidbits : Clouds

We have the most amazing sky and clouds above the Schlei fjord, sometimes also in the most amazing colours. Yesterday was a great day for clouds, so I took some pictures:

At the end of our road along the Schlei lives another Dutch woman, Betty Kerstens, who only paints water and .... clouds. She thinks it's here the best place for her to live ! Have a look at her website ! Here's one of her cloud paintings:
