Bags : Vintage Sugar Sack

It was such gorgeous weather here this week, that I totally forgot about Button Wednesday .... But I will make it good next week ! And I did something funny instead. I got a big vintage sugar sack from a friend with the question if I could make her a bag from it for one of her grand-daughters. It was a very thick linen, here and there with some holes, and with a text written on one side: "When Empty Return to R.A.F.C.D.A.". I cut all the seams of the sack, which were very special (some were sewn with rope) and decided to use them as decoration on the bag. Something had to pop up all the white, so I went for some red accents, like if the sack was mended on a few places. A bit of red cotton embroidery and two big white buttons at the bottom were the last additions. Used a part of a vintage white linen tea-towel for the bottom lining and an inside pocket, and cotton trunk-ties for the straps (long enough to wear it as a shoulderbag). It was great fun to make, now hoping that my friend's grand-daughter likes it too :)))
