Tidbits : Flickr Favourites

After the Marken and Volendam costumes, today it's the turn of the traditional costume of Spakenburg in The Netherlands. Spakenburg is a village north of Bunschoten. Spakenburg is formally called Bunschoten-Spakenburg since its fusion with Bunschoten. The village lays south of the IJsselmeer in the province of Utrecht. It is one of the few places left in the Netherlands where some women still wear local traditional clothes; they can often been seen on the various open air markets in The Netherlands selling fish. Thir kraplap (i.e. bodice) is the largest, most visible and brilliant one of all the Dutch traditional costumes.

For more flickr favourites see ArtMind's blog.

1. Symbols of Faith Kraplap, 2. Lace Cap, 3. People of The Netherlands , about half a century ago, 4. Bunschoten-Spakenburg

And two picture postcards from my own collection.

Ooh, I find it so interesting that one style becomes 'traditional' when others pass us by so quickly.

So cool to see all the Dutch traditional costumes. It makes me want to investigate how that was in Belgium...
