Button Wednesday : Wall Hangings

I am going to make each Wednesday a BUTTON DAY on my blog. I will write about a button or a button-related item / event and will show some great pics. It would be great if you could do the same. Have you seen a lovely, beautiful, stunning, crazy button or button-related thingy, or did you make something with a button / buttons, or did you even make buttons yourself, blog about it on your blog on Wednesday, and give the link here via Mister Linky at the end of this post.

This Wednesday Button Day is dedicated to the Button Colour Series from Multistorey. Multistorey is a London-based studio specialising in art direction and graphic design. It was set up in 1997, the year after Drakeford and Woodrow graduated from Saint Martins. Their motto is "It's about ideas first and then how to do it after that".

Button Colour Series is a collection of wall hangings. Each piece comprises of hundreds of buttons hand sewn onto a variety of backing materials to form shapes. The mixture of antique, decorative and simple buttons are brought together within colour groups which are then blended into each other. The blend is an organic process, with the colour pallete being the only predetermined factor. The piece evolves as the buttons are individually selected to be sewn on—meaning each piece is entirely individual.
Needless to say that I love these wall hangings !!!!

Button Wednesday : Teddy Bear

I am going to make each Wednesday a BUTTON DAY on my blog. I will write about a button or a button-related item / event and will show some great pics. It would be great if you could do the same. Have you seen a lovely, beautiful, stunning, crazy button or button-related thingy, or did you make something with a button / buttons, or did you even make buttons yourself, blog about it on your blog on Wednesday, and give the link here via Mister Linky at the end of this post.

This Wednesday Button Day is dedicated to a Teddy Bear. Surfing on the net, I found this huge teddy bear completely stitched with buttons from Cynthia Korzekwa at Art of Housewives. This teddy is true button art ! Have a look at Cynthia's blog and page, she is a very creative and versatile woman, making all kinds of art. I love looking through her work.

Button Thursday : Victorian Button Bracelets

I am going to make each Thursday a BUTTON DAY on my blog. I will write about a button or a button-related item / event and will show some great pics. It would be great if you could do the same. Have you seen a lovely, beautiful, stunning, crazy button or button-related thingy, blog about it on your blog on Thursday, and give the link here (via Mister Linky at the bottom of this blog).

My Thursday button is my series of Victorian button bracelets, also to be used as necklaces. I started to make these as a not so broad alternative for my button cuffs. Thinking of the closure I thought it had to be something tender, not so bold as with the cuffs. Then I came up with this idea of weaving a velvet ribbon through the openings between the buttons, and tie it in a bow. So, the Victorian button bracelet / choker was born.

I make them also from very small buttons, and with lace ribbon, which makes it even more delicate and "Victorian". For sale in my etsy shop P8 Button Art & Accessories

!!!!!!!!!! Because of widespread demand The Button Thursday will be shifted to Button Wednesday from next week !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Challenge : The Tulip

The challenge of the European Street Team for this week is from ZsBcreations and is called "The Tulip".

As a Dutchie I am a bit biased of course and I had to make something special for this; thought about tulip bags, hats, even a tulip made from buttons, but then I decided to go for an apron. I saw a picture of an old apron pattern with a tulip pocket on Etsy, and the whole thing started to take form into my head.

Then I remembered the beautiful vintage linen dish clothes I bought last year on a flea market here in northern Germany, and the design was complete. It's for sale in my P8 Accessories shop on Etsy. Maybe the beginning of a new line ?

I wish you could feel the vintage linen; it's gorgeously rough and there is a beautiful stripe pattern woven into it.
At the end of this post some of the tulips in my own garden; I hope they will appear soon again !

Buttons : Button Necklace Tutorial

A few weeks ago I placed a nice old card with Estonian costumes on Etsy, but had no idea from which areas the costumes were. Traditional costumes being my hobby, I searched the internet and tried to find information about it, but found nothing useful. So, I decided to ask my Estonian EST friends. I got lots of lovely reactions and one of them, Leina from XbyLeinaNeima, offered to buy me a book at the National Museum about traditional Estonian costumes in exchange for a tutorial from one of my button creations. I could not say no !!

The tutorial is part of an Estonian project by Leina and Marianne (from byMarianneS) about crafting with a recycling / upcycling character. It was my first ever tutorial and I loved doing it. Since today it's up on the Estonian Craft Blog; the text is in Estonian (such a beautiful language with all those vowels), but the pictures are clear and can be followed without the text. This weekend, Leina will also add an English version of the tutorial.

Button Thursday : Lady Gaga

I am going to make each Thursday a BUTTON DAY on my blog. I will write about a button or a button-related item / event and will show some great pics. It would be great if you could do the same. Have you seen a lovely, beautiful, stunning, crazy button or button-related thingy, blog about it on your blog on Thursday, and give the link here (via Mister Linky at the bottom of this blog).

My Thursday button is a head-hair-button of Lady Gaga. She showed another of her unique hair styles while she was attending an AIDS charity event in Manchester in England with hair styled into the shape of a button.

The next picture makes you wonder, which came first? Lady Gaga? Or Barbie Gaga? The likeness is stunning-similar! The guy who makes these is a Gaga-obsessed artist who has recreated the pop singer’s hairstyles and outfits with painstaking accuracy.

Miss Universe Japan 2009 National Costume wore also a hair-covered button hat somewhat similar to the one of Lady Gaga.

Maybe this trend is influenced by the Primitive Button Hair Angel on the RABBIT HOLLOW PRIMS SELLING BLOG, who hand-strung 160 buttons to give this angel her lovely hair.
