Button Wednesday : Button Covers

It is Wednesday again, so it's BUTTON DAY on my blog. It would be great if you could do the same; make your Wednesday a button day too. Have you seen a lovely, beautiful, stunning, crazy button or button-related thingy, or did you make something with a button / buttons, or did you even make buttons yourself, blog about it on your blog on Wednesday, and give the link here via Mister Linky at the end of this post.

I found some funny clock things on a garage sale here in northern Germany, and had no idea what they were; I bought them. Surfing the internet I found out that they were button covers. Never heard of those before. So here a small explanation and some pics.

Button covers can be slid over a simple button to give it a decorative covering. Most button covers are from metal. They can be sedate and used for a little extra decoration, or they may feature jewels, patterns or designs worked into the metal. Shirts with buttoned sleeves may be made dressier with button covers, and since they’re removable, they can be used with different shirts. Some people like to just wear a single cover on the top button (at the throat), others like to cover every button on the outfit. You should not confuse button covers with covered buttons. The latter refers to fabric-covered buttons.

The typical button cover is round and features a back clasp that is inserted around the threads of the button and underneath the button face.

I found some lovely button covers from Cuftlynx on Etsy:

And you can buy plain ones to decorate yourself (for example from yummytreasures and Stockpile on Etsy). And finally I found two lovely tutorials to make your own button covers:
- Cat and Dog Button Covers from TLC Family; lovely simple covers with a button hole to slide the button into.
- I Love You Button Cover from Kaboose; cover from polymer clay.

!!!!!!!!!! If you have something for The Button Wednesday, give Mister Linky your name and the link to your button post !!!!!!!!!!!!!
