Tidbits : Frozen Fjord

Finally the Schlei fjord is frozen; it's so gorgeous. It's white, silent and cold. I would love to go skating, but I have not seen a single skater on the fjord yet so I am afraid it is not safe enough. And I am not a young brave girl anymore that goes as the first one on the ice. I have to remember myself every time that this is actually salt water.....
But it looks nice, don't you think ?

Fabrics : Mourning Kraplap

I got a request from a customer on Etsy to make her a kraplap like the one above, but then from fabric and fitting to black clothes. She said: "create your ideal mourning kraplap for me !" after she had read my blogpost about the kraplap. After some searching through my traditional costume books, I got lots of inspiration and made a pattern based on the kraplap from the traditional costume in Staphorst in The Netherlands.
(Mourning Costume, Staphorst - from my postcard collection)

I still had some black and white fabric from Staphorst which is actually used at mourning and decided to sew the kraplap double so that it was wearable on two sides. For the other side I chose a black traditional German fabric with stripes and pink roses, which could be seen as "light mourning".

And this is the result. I like it ! Now I hope the customer likes it too.....

Tid Bits: Flickr Favourites

Inspired by the European Street Team challenge of last week for which I made wooden buttons (sawing, sanding, drilling & oiling) and made those into a necklace, my flickr favourites of today are all about wood.
For more flickr favourites see here.

And here's a picture of the wooden buttons and the necklace I made of it for the challenge:

Hats : Going Victorian 2

After the Victorian hat I made for a customer on DaWanda (the above picture), that was based on a traditional costume in the east of The Netherlands, Inger wanted me to make her a hat like the one above, but then from her own felted fabric. So she made a beautiful piece full with poppies and I found a fitting lining in dark purple for it.

I used lovely dark green woollen ribbon for the ties and two beautiful polymer buttons from Leina to finish it off. Now I hope Inger likes it .....

And what's even the best part of it; she paid me with a gorgeous purple and green felted scarf !!!!

Tidbits : Peggy in the snow

Peggy loves the snow ! Although the snow is pretty high, she somehow manages with her short legs to jump-run in it. The snow is cluttering on her legs, but that does not diminish the fun. I am always astouned how long she can do this. It tires me faster than her.... The pics are from this afternoon in the fields behind our house.

Hats : going Victorian

I got a request from a customer on DaWanda to make her a hat like the one above, but then for the winter, simpler and from wool. After some searching through my traditional costume books, I found a pattern from a traditional costume in the east of The Netherlands (dating from the same Victorian time) that looked a bit like it.
(Twenthe - from my postcard collection)

I changed the pattern a bit and made it from some leftover fabric to see how it came out, and after some adaptations I decided to do it. Found some pretty wool in my fabric stack and attached some of my "leaves" to give it the P8Accessories touch, and here it is. I like it ! Now I hope the customer likes it too.....
